Steve Hogarth: SPQR - Live At Rome’s Sala Sinopoli [Blu-ray]

Eight years after his last live performance in Rome, Steve "H" Hogarth returned. For the recordings for "SPQR", he was once again accompanied by the Italian band RanestRane, who provided the acoustic instrumentation with harp, mandolin, harmonium and tablas. For this show, in which Marillion classics and solo material were reinterpreted in cinematic arrangements, the band was supported by the Flowing Chords Choir.

Recorded on February 3, 2024 at the Sala Sinopoli in Rome, H said at the time: "It is with great pleasure that I can announce my return to Rome on Saturday, February 3, 2024, to perform another concert - solo and accompanied by the Romans RanestRane, to rekindle the chemistry we last had together in September 2015." He continued: "In England they say: 'When in Rome... find a great Italian band and play with them'."

It is an intimate moment when Steve Hogarth interprets Leonard Cohen's "Famous Blue Raincoat". Free of any frills, Hogarth's delicate piano playing and expressive vocals add a new dimension to Cohen's story of regret, longing and silent confession.
